It feels like every time I get online, I hear something about the amazing uses of essential oils. I have wanted to try some for a long time, and finally got the chance when Laura from Laura's gluten free pantry sent me some to try.
I really had no idea where to start, and honestly was a little skeptical about all the hype I kept hearing. I finally decided to try the peppermint oil first, because I deal with sinus headaches quite a bit, and was shocked when my headache went away almost as soon as I tried the oil! I'll take drinking a cup of coffee with a splash of peppermint any day over popping tylenol!
Shortly after that experience I got well acquainted with the usefulness of essential oils when all 5 of my kids got sick last week. They all had coughs, runny noses, and fevers, so I gave them lots of baths with orange, lemon, and peppermint oil. When they couldn't sleep, I rubbed some lavender oil on their wrists, and when the coughing got particularly bad I rubbed some peppermint oil(mixed with coconut oil) on their feet, and watched in amazement as they got some much needed relief.
I think it's safe to say that I'm no longer skeptical about essential oils. :)
Laura has generously offered to giveaway a Doterra introductory kit(which contains lavender, peppermint, and lemon oil), an audio cd explaining how to use the oils, and a large bottle of wild orange oil to one of my readers. All you have to do is enter below!
Also, if you'd like to go ahead and purchase a kit, green living ladies is currently running a special where if you a buy a kit, you get another one for free!
Good "luck!"

Congrats to Marcie!!!
One of my favorites is Thieves from Young Living. It gives the immune system a real boost so we use it anytime the kiddos are sick.
ReplyDeleteOnly a little, but it would like to do more
ReplyDeleteHoping to soon!
ReplyDeleteLove essential oils, knowing I am avoiding unneccesary chemicals feels good

ReplyDeleteWe LOVE EOs. Most recently it's been wintergreen in this "Naked salve" my mom made and then rubbed on my aching hip (because apparently turning 30 makes your body fall apart?!?! lol!)
ReplyDeleteI wish there was more options to get entries, I don't have facebook or pintrest or twitter... so I only have the option to comment! Oh well :) I would love to try oils like this, I have horrible migraines every once in a while and would love to try the peppermint oil!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a tea tree oil convert, and we use lavender in the bath for our little one
ReplyDeleteWe use several oils---melaleuca for my husband's cold sores & cuts/scratches, & in my homemade liquid soap, lavender for burns/cuts/scrapes & to help my kids sleep, On Guard on our toothbrushes, bottoms' of our feet to help fight colds/sicknesses, lemon in my water, peppermint/lemon/lavender combo for sinuses & allergies, peppermint combo for headaches, and so many other uses.
ReplyDeleteI am familiar with essential oils and their uses, but it wasn't until recently that I actually went out and purchased some. I currently have eucalyptus, citronella (lemon grass) and tea tree oil. I bought them with the intent of using them for homemade cleaners and have since discovered many more uses for them. Lavender and peppermint are the next on my "to purchase" list.
ReplyDeleteI am a total EO addict! Even my hubby is believer since the first time I put lemon, lavender and peppermint in local honey for his allergies. There is sooo much to learn about using them. I know just a drop in the bucket! But don't ever use them on your kids without first mixing in a carrier oil.
